Anu Kramer has been selected to receive a 2012 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Fellowship. The selection was based on her outstanding abilities and accomplishments, as well as your potential to contribute to strengthening the vitality of the US science and engineering enterprise, and her uber-cool research proposal: Using aerial LiDAR to inform the evaluation of FIRETEC, a physics-based wildfire model. Anu is a second year Ph.D. student coadvised by Maggi Kelly and Scott Stephens and am studying forestry, fire ecology, fire modeling, and LiDAR. Congrats to Anu!
Shasta Ferranto and Ellen Kersten both have won recognition for their outstanding teaching. Shasta won the Berkeley outstanding GSI award, and Ellen won the ESPM outstanding GSI award. Congrats to both of them! More great news...Ellen's paper, "Do small food stores provide access to nutritious foods? Comparing database and store visit measures of the community nutrition environment" has been accepted in Preventing Chronic Disease, and has been selected as the 2012 Student Paper Contest Winner! Shasta will be starting a new job this summer as a newly minted Berkeley PhD with the Bureau of Land Management in Washington DC.
